| Here is the process I follow to create oil an painting. This painting is small, 8x8". I'm going to call it
"GRAMPA JIM AND FAITH" |

1. Now the faces have a second coat and are more refined. The hardest part of the first coat is done. 2. MOVE THE CURSOR OVER THE IMAGE. I began filling in the background. I made the towel over Faith's head colorful to keep the viewer's attention on her. Next I have to decide what color to make Jim's shirt to enhance the painting. I took a digital photo and using Adobe Photoshop I tried different colors on the shirt. 3. CLICK ON THE IMAGE to see the shirt. |

| This is an 8x8" oil painting.
1. First step is drawing the charcoal sketch. I find a general sketch to be helpful. More detail is useless because it is lost as paint is applied. 2. MOVE THE CURSOR OVER THE IMAGE. Next I started on Faith's face. 3. CLICK ON THE IMAGE. Now I've roughed in Jim's face, too. In general, first coats should be quick and loose. I need something there to make it better. Look at the image on the right to continue. |
