The tan color is the color of the paper.

1. First step is drawing the charcoal sketch. I find a general sketch to be helpful. More detail is useless because it is lost as pastel is applied. I started with the basic water shapes, a color I decided was too blue.

2. Next I darkened the upper portion of the "ground" above the water so it could show through the grass when I applied it. I experimented with some greens and tans for the grass.

3. I completed the first layer and then applied the finish layer of grass.
